Tony Benger Landscaping can supply and plant almost any variety or size of tree, either from our own nursery or through a variety of specialist tree growers.

We plant ornamental and exotic trees for gardens and prestige planting schemes, native trees for large-scale commercial projects, parkland and municipal tree landscape schemes, urban trees for avenues and housing developments and orchard fruit trees.

We are also qualified to conduct tree surveys and carry out tree trimming and tree surgery work. Our tree specialist skills also include fruit tree pruning, continental style tree pleaching and shrub pruning.

In recent years Tony Benger Landscaping has undertaken many native tree and whip planting schemes, including rabbit protection, on large scale commercial projects such as highways, industrial sites, parks and ecology areas.

In the UK, winter is the normal time to transplant trees, with the planting season beginning around 5th November through to the end of March. Tree planting is an effective way to give a garden structure, provide shade in summer and wind protection in winter. Trees can be planted to provide privacy, mark a boundary and for purely ornamental purposes.

A Root ball tree supplied with the roots and surrounding ball of soil, bound in hessian and wire mesh to hold it together. Some varieties of tree survive transplanting better this way, although others can be supplied bare root without soil, but wrapped in plastic for transport to stop the roots drying. Container Grown Trees supplied in the pots in which they are grown, are more expensive but available for year round planting, although this is not recommended during the height of summer.

Newly planted trees will need time to re-establish themselves and root. This is helped with the addition of mycorrhizal fungi and fertilizers, stake and tie, watering/aeration systems. Larger trees may require double staking with cross rail and ties or more complicated multiple staking systems. Our teams are experienced in planting Urban and avenue tree planting systems using underground rootball guying in high specification planting pits with root barriers/root directors, aeration and watering systems, Amsterdam tree soil, metal frame grille and tree guard etc.

Trees can be described by height, girth measurement, or through horticultural designation, starting with: seedling, whip, feathered, standard and semi-mature which are the largest normally available to transplant standing at 6m to 12m high, weighing several tonnes and needing a crane to lower ito position. Standard designated trees are sub-divided into a range of sizes: short, half, extra light, light, standard, tall and selected; then heavy and extra heavy.
